| 11 Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day
In 1858 there lived a little peasant girl, Bernadette Soubirous, 14 years old, uneducated, simple, poor, good, in the village of Lourdes. On February 11, she was sent with two more girls to collect wood. They walked to the Rock of Massabielle, where the two companions crossed a mountain stream. While Bernadette was removing her shoes to follow them, she became conscious of a beautiful Lady standing in the hollow of the rock looking at her. Bernadette fell upon her knees gazing at the lovely Lady, who smiled lovingly at Bernadette and then disappeared. The mysterious Lady from heaven appeared 18 times to the little girl and among other things told her to drink the water from a spring not yet obvious. Bernadette scratched in the sand at the spot indicated and water began to trickle through. After a few days there gushed forth every day 27,000 gallons of pure water, flowing even today. Bernadette was told to ask the priest to have a church built on the spot and people should drink the water. Many healings are attributed to this spring. The lovely Lady told Bernadette that people should visit the grotto in order to do penance for their sins and for those of the whole world. When Bernadette asked the Lady her name she replied, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Communion Service

Anointing of the Sick
This Sacrament is available for anyone who has a serious physical or mental illness or is seriously weakened by age, or maybe is anticipating a serious surgery. This is an opportunity to experience the healing touch of Christ through this Sacrament that he has given to the Church. The Lord can heal us physically, or strengthen those providing medical care, and certainly give us the spiritual healing of our soul when we are challenged by a critical health problem. Anointing of the Sick will take place following 4 p.m. mass. |
