Solemnity of All Saints – Tuesday, November 1
Tuesday’s liturgy, a Holy Day of obligation, celebrates all those “saints” down through the centuries who have faithfully lived in the life of Christ and his Church here on earth and are now with our Lord in heaven. This communion of saints includes the many, many Christians who did not end up with a special feast day of their own. Hopefully most of our ancestors and deceased friends will be counted in that number. Someday this can be our feast day too!
The Holy Day Masses will be at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. (Note: There is NO Vigil Mass for this Holy Day because that would be Halloween evening. We will stay home and trick or treat.)
Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) – Wednesday, November 2
On this day, we remember and pray for all those who have died among our family and friends, and even our St. Bernadette Parish family members who have passed in the last 12 months. There will be just one Mass and at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2.
Through the Eucharist this day we renew our belief in Christ’s pledge that all who believe that he is “the life and the Resurrection, and all who believe in him will never die.” There is sadness in the departure at the time of death of those close to us. But we rejoice that they are at peace with the Lord and that we will join them someday in the light of Christ’s face.
Our St. Bernadette Purgatorial Society, and Our Book of Life
During the month of November each year, we place our Book of Life in a place of honor by our baptismal font and Christ candle. We have entered in the names of St. Bernadette Parish members who have died during the past 12 months, and you can come up and write in the names of your beloved family and friends who have passed. We will be praying for them especially during the month of November.
Also, I encourage you to use your All Souls Day envelope from you packet to make an offering to have a Mass offered for your beloved dead ($10). Actually. the names you write on that All Souls Day envelope will be remembered during the many Masses offered throughout the year for our St. Bernadette Purgatorial Society.
Stewardship Covenant Commitment Card
Did you make your annual commitment to the Lord concerning your plans to use the gifts the Lord has blessed you with for the good of Christ’s Church and for our St. Bernadette Parish? It seems like about half of our active parish members have returned their cards so far. Now we need the other half of the parish to reflect on the stewardship of your time, talent, and treasure, and then fill out the commitment card and return it to the parish office in this next week.
