CHANGE IN PROTOCOLS FOR MASS DURING THE PANDEMIC
Archbishop Rozanski has made the decision to lift the dispensation of the faithful to attend Mass on Sundays. As of July 1, 2021, all Catholics in the Archdiocese of St. Louis will return to the normal status of observing faithfully the obligation to participate in the Sunday Eucharist every week.
Allelluia! This is a good sign that the scourge of the COVID 19 pandemic is now under control and we can continue to return to some degree of normalcy in our lives – especially in our parish life.
(Please note that parishioners who are sick, homebound, immunocompromised or gravely concerned for their health are still dispensed from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass, which has always been the case in normal times.)
Now we can safely return to the use of holy water at church entrances, missalettes and hymnals in the pews, the use of choirs at Mass, the use of offertory baskets passed by ushers, and the entrance procession and recessional that includes the lector and a server.
However, the American Bishops have not given permission to return to distribution of the Chalice of the Precious Blood during Holy Communion yet.
NOTE WELL: The Archdiocese recommends that individuals who have not received the vaccine should continue to follow CDC guidelines. We ask that they be thoughtful of their own health and that of their parish community in monitoring for COVID 19 symptoms related to the use of masks and social distancing. Masks remain optional for those who are fully vaccinated. We ask that parish members would informally try to social distance in church by spreading out to the front of church more and using the center part of the pews, not just the end of the pews.
Thank you to the whole St. Bernadette Parish Family for your very conscientious cooperation during the last 16 months of the pandemic. I believe we have done very well in keeping everyone as safe as possible during this unusually trying time.
Lord, continue to bless us! St. Bernadette, pray for us!
KNEE REPORT #5
As I write this, I am half way through the six weeks of antibiotic infusion therapy twice a day to rid my knee of troublesome bacteria. So far; so good. Thanks as always for your prayers for my healing and also for your support and concern. I really appreciate it!
